The Results
Are In

The first issue of this
Update was a hit
by the standards of
E-Newsletters: 54% of
the recipients opened it
(37% is "average") and
35% of them took
advantage of one or more
of the 25 hyperlinks it
contained. Most
popular clicks: my
bio,
client list and
book store. All but
one
link was clicked at
least once. When your
CEO asks "What have you
done for me lately?" do
you tell her that you
"generated excitement?"
Or can you list results?

Who has the latest version of
that press release!?
Back in my Goebel, Kirk & Pilato
days (1982 - 1990), the three of
us talked about the "wild,
crazy, futuristic" idea of
providing our clients with a
place on that amazing new
Internet thing where they could
keep their calendars, documents
and to-do lists, collaborate and
goodness knows what else.
Now, 25 years later, I use
Microsoft's SharePoint services
to provide all of that and more
to each of my clients, in their
own pass-word protected
Client Zones.
One of the greatest benefits is
the ability for numerous people
to edit the same document in the
same place so there's never a
question if a document is "the
latest version." Large
organizations install their own
SharePoint servers but there are
a few
hosted services out there,
too. Hint: the service is
free to
my clients. |

To CPO or Not to CPO: That is the Question
When you're
conducting public
opinion research, should you
include the almost-always
younger, single and child-free
people who have forsaken
landlines for cell-phones-only?
It's an expensive decision,
since adding CPOs to your survey
sample can quadruple your cost.
The answer, most likely, is
"no," if your sample is properly
weighted.

Workshop
Communication Skills for Leaders:
Effective Communication for Managers &
Supervisors
Q:
What's the first thing you learn in
Employee Communication 101?
A: Managers and supervisors are
the most effective and most credible
source of information for employees.
Q: So, what's the mainstay of
every employee com-munication program?
A: Newsletters.
What's missing in this equation? How
about the idea that many managers aren't
naturally good at communication! These
skills can be acquired through
coaching and training.

They say:
"David was an excellent instructor. He
promoted introspection on some of the
most basic tasks we often take for
granted or 'should just know.' I feel I
took a great deal of information from
the presentation and hope it helps me to
become a more effective communicator.
Great job!" |
